i-nit® Hot-Wall Pulsed Plasma Nitriding Furnace
i-nit® pulsed plasma nitriding furnaces apply plasma nitriding/nitrocarburizing to parts from a few grams to several tons in various sizes; all ferrous materials including stainless steels and cast irons can be nitrided. Key features are low process temperatures, selective (local) hardening, flexible control of surface metallurgy, repeatability and an environmentally friendly vacuum process. In 2010 the company built the first commercial hot-wall pulsed plasma nitriding furnace produced in Turkey.
i-nit® Cold-Wall Plasma Nitriding Furnace (cold800)
The first cold-wall plasma nitriding furnace built under the i-nit® brand was commissioned in June 2020. The i-nit cold800 plasma nitriding furnace completed acceptance tests and training at the Istanbul plant and went into operation after installation on the customer's production line. The furnaces are PLC-controlled; an easy user interface and ready programs allow standardised production per customer or job, with fully manual and semi-automatic operating options as well.
Custom Plasma Nitriding Systems (Laboratory to Industrial)
Plasma nitriding furnaces are highly flexible systems; furnace dimensions and capacities are designed to customer requirements and, as with vacuum furnaces, are mostly built as cylindrical units. The company can build i-nit® furnaces from laboratory scale (dia. 300x300 mm / 50 kg / 15 kW) up to large industrial scale (dia. 1600x2500 mm / 3000 kg / 300 kW). Systems are designed to provide the most economical and optimum process conditions for the user's parts and process.
Services
Plasma Nitriding of Stainless Steels
Using i-nit pulsed plasma nitriding furnaces and the i-nit Process control system, the wear resistance of stainless steels such as AISI 304, AISI 316L and AISI 420 and duplex grades such as 1.4462 is increased without reducing corrosion resistance. The low-temperature process allows the gas composition to determine the nitride or S-phase (expanded austenite) layer formed on the surface. Optimum process conditions are defined together with the customer based on where the part is used and the properties expected.
Plasma (Ion) Nitriding and Nitrocarburizing Service
Plasma nitriding is a surface hardening method performed in specially designed vacuum furnaces, where process gases are ionised by electric current and directed onto the workpieces. Process temperature ranges from 350 to 580 °C depending on material and required surface properties, and duration from 15 minutes to 120 hours. The service runs on 4 pulsed plasma nitriding/nitrocarburizing furnaces: max. work size Ø1400 x 1800 mm, max. weight 2200 kg, max. temperature 580 °C. Gears, cams, shafts, plastic and hot forging dies and hydraulic cylinders are typical applications.
Post-Oxidation and Vacuum Heat Treatment (Tempering, Stress Relieving)
Oxidation performed after nitriding is called post-oxidation; it forms a thin Fe3O4 (magnetite) layer on the steel surface to increase corrosion resistance. The company also performs tempering and stress relieving in vacuum furnaces. Its vacuum heat treatment equipment includes in-house built vacuum tempering furnaces and a 600 kg capacity vacuum tempering furnace.
