Former Makine Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.
Former Makine designs and manufactures barrels, screws and extruder filters for plastic and rubber processing machines.
About
FORMER Makine A.Ş. was born as the new name of long-standing experience in the plastics and rubber processing industry. Its speciality is the design and manufacture of screws and barrels for plastics and rubber processing machines.
Experience accumulated since 1973, modern metalworking, a precise machine park, an experienced team and quality from incoming material to delivery have made it a producer of high-quality plasticizing units.
The focus is to design the highest-performance barrels and screws for the customer's process, using the right materials and surface-hardening and coating techniques for long service life. Former will continue as a customer-focused organisation supporting the growing plastics processing industry locally and internationally.

Extruder Screen Changers
Former makes three extrusion filter types. The CFL continuous enlarged filter has about four times the filtration area of the CF series and a piston body that does not leak. On the BF plate filter, melt is directed onto the screen plate and the dirty screen is changed hydraulically. The CF continuous filter has dual flow paths so the screen can be changed without stopping melt flow.
Extrusion and Injection Barrels
Former manufactures almost every barrel type used in extrusion or injection. Injection barrels must take high injection pressure; extrusion barrels may use grooved feed systems for volatiles or hard-to-feed materials. Nitrided and bimetallic barrels are made in 20–200 mm diameter and up to 5,000 mm length. 24CrAlNi7 nitrided to 900–1050 HV5 is used.
Plasticizing Screws
Former produces complex screws to tight tolerances on a CNC screw line. Types include conventional 3-zone, barrier, vented, rubber/silicone, multi-flight and segmented compounding screws. Nitrided and bimetallic screws: 18–250 mm diameter, up to 9,000 mm long; through-hardened: 18–100 mm, up to 1,500 mm. Barrier screws give higher output and a more homogeneous melt than conventional screws.
Services
Bimetallic Barrel and Screw
Besides standard nitrided barrels and screws, Former supplies tool steels and bimetallic barrels and screws. Bimetallic barrels have a wear-surface alloy for corrosion or abrasion; materials with up to 50% glass fibre can run for long periods. Screw flights are protected with alloys such as F58, C12 and N56 and with HVOF or PVD coatings.
Twin-Screw Barrel Production
Former produces co-rotating and counter-rotating twin screws and twin barrels, including segmented compounding screw shafts. Grooved feed systems are offered in soft or hard geometries and straight or spiral form for more effective feeding of high-viscosity materials.
Rubber Barrel and Screw Design
For abrasive, hard-to-feed rubber, Former’s own designs have run for years at hundreds of users. Water-cooled designs give precise temperature control. Barrel and screw designs take rubber abrasion into account so units can be refurbished economically.
