Laser cutting is a profiling process. A focused beam cuts a flat shape from sheet or plate. Buyers use it for blanks, panels, flanges and parts that will later be bent or welded somewhere else. It is not, by itself, a full sheet-metal fabrication service.
Suppliers differ by material, thickness and sheet size. A machine set up for thin stainless panels is not the same offer as one cutting thicker steel plate. Edge quality, hole size and the heat tint on stainless are practical questions, not marketing points. Some companies only cut. Others cut and then bend. Look at the related fabrication and bending pages when the part needs more than a flat profile. The category does not state a maximum thickness for every firm. That number has to come from the supplier.
What this category covers
The work is flat cutting of metals such as mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, within the thickness and sheet size a given shop can run. Small holes, sharp internal corners and very thick plate all have process limits. Bending, machining and welding are separate unless the company offers them.
What to compare
Match the material and thickness first. Then ask about sheet size, the smallest hole they will cut, and whether parts are deburred. A low price on a thin steel blank says little about stainless work or a part that must stay flat.
What to include in a quote request
Send a DXF or a flat drawing, the material, the thickness, the quantity and any note about grain direction or a protected surface. If the part will be bent, say so, because the cut profile and the finished shape are different.

Can every shop cut stainless steel?
No. Ask. Material and thickness are the first filter, and they vary by machine.
What drawing format is useful?
A DXF of the flat shape is the normal file. A 3D model of a bent part still needs a flat pattern or a note that bending is required.
Does the category include tube laser cutting?
